Facebook Business Pages vs. Profile Pages: Understanding the Difference and How to Switch

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

In today's digital age, social media platforms have become essential for businesses to thrive and connect with their target audience. Among these platforms, Facebook stands out as a powerful tool for businesses to establish an online presence. However, many business owners still struggle to understand the distinction between Facebook Business Pages and Profile Pages. In this blog, we will delve into the key differences between these two entities and guide you on how to switch between them.

Facebook Business Pages:

  1. Purpose: Facebook Business Pages are designed specifically for businesses, brands, organizations, and public figures to represent themselves on the platform. These pages serve as a professional hub to interact with customers, promote products or services, and share engaging content.

  2. Features: Business Pages offer a wide array of features and tools, including insights and analytics, call-to-action buttons, reviews, and the ability to run ads and boost posts. They also allow multiple page administrators to manage and collaborate on the page's content and interactions.

  3. Privacy and Reach: Business Pages are public-facing, which means anyone on Facebook can view the content shared on the page. This feature provides businesses with a broader reach and the potential to attract new customers.

  4. Likes and Follows: Users can "like" a Business Page to become followers. The number of followers and engagement metrics provide valuable insights into the page's performance.

Facebook Profile Pages:

  1. Purpose: On the other hand, Facebook Profile Pages are meant for individual use. Users create personal profiles to connect with friends and family, share personal updates, photos, and experiences.

  2. Features: Profiles offer fewer business-oriented features than Business Pages. While you can mention your profession and workplace on your profile, it's not designed for business promotion.

  3. Privacy and Reach: Profiles have more privacy options, allowing users to control who can view their posts and information. Friend requests are used to connect with other users, and posts are typically visible to friends only.

  4. Friendships: Instead of "likes" and "follows," Profiles have "friends." The number of friends is generally limited, and this interaction is more personal in nature.

Switching the Post to Your Business Page From The Computer:

Step 1: Posting on Your Facebook Profile from your Cell Phone

  1. Open the Facebook App: Launch the Facebook mobile app on your cell phone and log in to your personal account using your credentials.

  2. Find the "What's on your mind?" Box: On your Profile's homepage or timeline, you'll see a text box that says "What's on your mind?" at the top. Tap on it to start creating your post.

  3. Craft Your Post: Type your post's content in the text box. You can share your thoughts, updates, photos, videos, or links to articles, just like you would on a computer.

  4. Add Media (Optional): To include images, videos, or GIFs in your post, tap on the camera or video icons in the text box. Select the media you want to add from your phone's gallery.

  5. Choose Your Audience (Optional): You can customize who sees your post by tapping on the audience selector (usually set to "Friends" by default) and choosing from various privacy settings.

  6. Tag Friends or Add Location (Optional): If desired, you can tag friends in your post or add a location by tapping the "@" symbol and typing their names or selecting a location from the options.

  7. Preview and Edit: Review your post for any errors or formatting issues. Edit the content if necessary to ensure it is clear and error-free.

  8. Post Your Content: Once you're satisfied with your post, tap the "Post" button to share it on your Facebook Profile.

Step 2: Switching Between your Profile Page and Your Business Page from your Cell Phone.

  1. Open the Facebook App: Ensure you are still logged in to the Facebook app on your cell phone.

  2. Go to Your Profile Page: If you are in the news feed, Tap the icon of your profile pic in the left hand corner. When the next window open, tap on the icon of your profile pic in the left hand corner. It will place you on our Profile Page.

  1. Locate the Shared Post: Once you're on your Profile Page, scroll down on the timeline to find the post you want to share to your Business Page.

  2. Tap the Share Button: Underneath the shared post, tap the "Share" button (it looks like an arrow pointing right) to proceed.

  3. Choose "Share To Page": A window opens up underneath the post with options presented, scroll to the right and select " Page."

  4. Select Your Business Page: A list of Pages you manage will appear. Tap on or scroll down to your Business Page where you want to share the post.
